A morphogenetic (seemorphogenesis ) change in a system 's structure conditioned by that system's contact or co-presence with another system, variable or event which neither causes the change in the sense of forcing an adaptation nor provides instructions directing that change in the sense of an organization al input (seecatalyst ). E.g., a family therapy in which the therapist creates a condition for a family to change its pattern of behavior and to find a new homeostasis (seeself-organization ) without either directing the process (seegoal oriented ) or expressing what he prefers.
