Linguistics

The study of language. This includes the study of syntax -- what it is that makes a sentence well-formed -- and of semantics -- how the words of a sentence work together to give the sentence its overall meaning. Parsing is the process of breaking a string of words into the constituents specified by the syntax. (Arbib)
