Passive Hold-Down
The process of holding the component lead in contact with the bonding pad by pressing on the body of the component during the soldering process to ensure intimate contact between the lead and bonding pad. Intimate contact is important for proper heat transfer through the lead to reflow the solder. This is commonly used in laser and hot gas soldering.
