Definition Of:

Self-Similarity

Dictionary of Cybernetics & SystemsDictionary of Cybernetics and Systems
A geometrical resemblance or physical correspondence between the parts of a system and the system as a whole. For example, each part of a holographic image represents information about the whole so that a significant portion of that image may be lost with only insignificant loss of the information provided by that whole. In fractal geometry, the composition of wholes and of the parts participating in such wholes follow the same principles of construction except on a smaller scale. The magnification of a fractal universe apparently reveals nothing new ,yet this universe generates extremely complex forms. (Krippendorff )
