A type of
simulation in which persons (referred to as actors or players), sometimes with the aid of computers, act out roles as parts of the system being analyzed. For example, experts in different fields may be called upon to simulate the behavior (to predict the response) of specific segments of a regional or national economy being studied. A role-playing
simulation in which the actors (players) act out roles as
decision makers is called
gaming . In gaming, the players usually have different and conflicting
objectives (in business gaming and war gaming, for example). The players may act as individuals or may be combined into coalitions, or opposing teams. (IIASA)
